‘Department of Physics’ and ‘Department of Material Science and Metallurgical Engineering’ organizing

Quantum Mechanics in Optics and Electron Microscopy

From 14th to 19th october, 2019

Supported by TEQIP-III (NPIU, MHRD, Government of India)

About the Workshop:

This workshop will give an introduction to Quantum Mechanics, Boundary value problems, angular momentum algebra, spin-1/2 system, spin-orbit interaction, Fine structure, Stark effect, Rotational and vibrational spectra, Raman Spectroscopy. We will also focus on using understanding how imaging can be done using classical and quantum phenomena. In particular, their application in improving the image quality and resolution using various techniques will be introduced. Demonstration of Raman spectroscopy and UV-Visible spectroscopy will be done. Further it will provide you the knowledge on characterisation using electron microscopes namely Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM), with emphasis on techniques like imaging, spectroscopy and In-Situ TEM studies. There will also be a demonstration session on various specimen preparation methods for TEM, along with conventional TEM Imaging and Diffraction on various types of samples. The Hands-on session will be on Mathematica programming in solving the Quantum Mechanics equations and spectroscopy related problems.

Intended Participants:

The workshop is intended for Faculty, Research Scholars/Students from participating TEQIP colleges. Participants are assumed to have knowledge of the basic principles of engineering (i.e., undergraduate degree in engineering).

There are two pages in the form for you to fill up. After submitting the form, you will receive a mail from teqip with an attachment of the filled form by the end of the day. You need to take a print of this form and write your institution full name if it is not there in the list and get it signed by your institution's TEQIP coordinator/director, and send its scanned copy to teqip. You will receive a mail if your participation is confirmed. Please note that participation is allotted on a first come first serve basis.

Registration Fee for Participants:

There is no fee for participants from TEQIP sponsored colleges.

For other participants, the course fee is Rs. 15,000/- + 18%GST.
