Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering organizing
Five Day Workshop on:
"Theory & Applications of Computational Fluid Dynamics"
February, 11th to 15th, 2019
Supported by TEQIP-III (NPIU, MHRD, Government of India)
About the Workshop:
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) has become a very important engineering tool in the design and product development process. There are several commercial CFD software like Ansys Fluent, Star CCM+, Converge, etc. are available and are being actively used in various industries ranging from bio-medical to aerospace applications. This course is meant to give the participants a theoretical basis on CFD and to demonstrate its application to various industry relevant case studies.
A typical CFD project would include several steps like creating appropriate mesh, selection of proper flow models, applying boundary conditions and selecting proper numerical schemes to achieve a convergent solution of appropriate fidelity. This course will provide the participants a thorough understanding of the theoretical concepts related to CFD. Additionally, application of these theoretical concepts in practical CFD problems will be demonstrated through a number of laboratory sessions.
The course content would include introduction of governing fluid mechanics equations, their discretization using finite volume method and error estimation; various solution algorithms; modelling of turbulent flow; application of CFD in multiphase flow and combustion. Each day will have theoretical sessions followed by lab sessions.
The workshop is intended for Faculty, Research Scholars/Students from participating TEQIP colleges. Participants are assumed to have knowledge of the basic principles of engineering (i.e., undergraduate degree in engineering). Some knowledge of CFD is an advantage, but not essential.
